Scarlets welcome back internationals for second pre-season friendly
The Scarlets take on Pat Lam’s Bristol Rugby this Saturday in the second of three pre-season friendlies after securing an 82-12 victory over Scarlets Premiership Select last weekend.
Head Coach Wayne Pivac had an opportunity last weekend, alongside his coaching group, to see some of the region’s young talent in action and put the pre-season’s work to the test in a live game.
The young talent and new recruits did not disappoint with Australian centre Paul Asquith scoring a hat-trick on his debut one of the highlights.
This Saturday’s clash against Bristol brings with it an altogether different challenge with the Championship side now under the leadership of former Guinness PRO12 winning coach Pat Lam.
Pivac has rewarded a number of last week’s side with a second bite at the cherry with new recruits Rhys Jones, Tom Grabham, Paul Asquith and Morgan Williams remaining in the backline. They’re joined by experienced centre Hadleigh Parkes, who will captain the side, as well as Dan Jones and Aled Davies at halfbacks.
Davies, who made his long-awaited international debut on Wales’ summer tour, makes a return with his fellow new caps Ryan Elias, Wyn Jones and Steff Evans all named on the replacements bench.
Props Dylan Evans and Simon Gardiner are joined in the front row by experienced hooker Emyr Phillips. David Bulbring and Tom Price line up in the second row with a young and exciting combination in the back row with former Under 20s Tom Phillips, Shaun Evans and Josh Macleod all getting a start.
International tighthead prop Samson Lee, who missed out on the Wales’ summer tour due to injury, will look to make a return to action from the replacements bench.
