Ryan Giggs will be among the star names involved in one of the highlights of the UEFA Champions Festival in Cardiff Bay next week.
The former Manchester United and Wales ace will be among 25 legendary European footballers taking part in the Ultimate Champions Match on the floating pitch in Cardiff Bay on Friday, 2 June (4.00-6.00pm).
Giggs, 43, was born in Cardiff and played 64 times for Wales. He also played for Team GB at the 2012 Olympic Games, featuring in games at the National Stadium of Wales, where the Champions League final, between Real Madrid and Juventus, will be played on Saturday, 3 June.
He was a Champions League winner with United in the 1999 and 2008 finals, captained the side in the 2009 defeat to Barcelona and played in a club record 157 games in the tournament. Other players taking part will be announced throughout the week.
Located in Cardiff Bay, the Champions Festival is expected to attract over 200,000 people throughout the four days (Thursday, 1 June to Sunday, 4 June), with all those in attendance given an opportunity to have their photo taken with the iconic Champions League trophy free-of-charge.
This not-to-be-missed event is for all those sports fans and families wishing to soak up the UEFA Champions League Final atmosphere. It’s free of charge and offers family entertainment throughout the day.
With Saturday expected to be the busiest day, as fans of the participating finalists arrive in the city, Thursday, Friday and Sunday will be the best opportunity for locals to experience the Festival. There will be music every day on the main stage, a special UEFA Gallery housed at the Millennium Centre charting the history of the tournament and many other attractions.
